How do I know what size hardware to buy?

For buckles, D-rings, swivel snaps, etc. (anything that a strap would be run through) you will want to match the width of your strap to the size of that item. The sizes listed with those items are the inner width of the loop or bar where the strap will sit.

For Chicago screws, rivets, snap fasteners, and bag feet/studs, the size you need will be determined by the thickness of your material. We have charts posted on the product pages for these items to help you determine the size you need. For Chicago screws, the post length should be 1-2mm less than the overall thickness of your material to keep the screws from bottoming out. For Rivets and snaps, posts should be 1-2mm more than your material to ensure they are set securely. For back posts on studs, bag feet, and collar buttons, we recommend 3mm of the post to come through your material. We have charts in the product descriptions for these items to help you determine the right size.

We also have a scale photo posted with each of our hardware items showing the overall length and width to further help you determine its suitability for your needs.
