Adjusting Leather Splitter Skiving Machine

1.  The 8116 is made to split heavier leathers.   The leather should be at least 6-8 ounces to start with.   The wider the piece is for splitting, the thicker it should be.   Stationary blade splitters rely on a certain thickness and rigidity to the leather in order to be able to split well.   If the leather is not rigid enough, it will curl under the blade like a wet lasagna noodle.

2.  The 8116 likes to remove at least 2 ounces at a time on a single split.   It cannot remove 1/2 ounce at a time.   Only a band knife splitter costing tens of thousands of dollars is this accurate.   The 8116 is good to within plus or minus an ounce in overall accuracy.

3.  Check to make sure there is about 2mm of clearance between the bottom roller and the blade.   This is usually the correct distance for most types of splits.

4.  If the customer has moved the blade, we recommend inserting it into the machine as far forward as it will go.   There are blade stops to prevent the blade from going any farther forward.

5.   If the leather hangs up in the machine at the end of the split, try turning the split adjuster knob at the top of machine to loosen it a bit.   The leather should then come out easily.   Then reset it to the previous number to start the next split.
